"The Eye of Nature", 2023

Acrylic on plywood with clear resin coating in antique silver gilt frame.  36 x 32 inches (outside frame dimensions)

"The Eye of Nature" is an intuitive study of our interaction and unity with nature. The eye is a reflection of the viewer as well as the locus of the forces inherent in nature. The eye - the centre - is pure white. All the colours of the spectrum project outwards from this becoming infinite forms and colours and the magnificent variety of mother nature. As well as seeing an eye, and the head of a bird, you can also see the spiral of a seashell. This is the spiral of growth and the very life-force itself. The blue could be the sky for the birds, or the water for the shell. The mosaic tiles create the feeling of the fractal repetitions of the natural world...

JANARDAN

Introduction by Toby Jacobs

JOHN JACOBS GALLERY

"If you spend time studying Janardan's work as I have, you will feel enriched an uplifted. His work speaks to our deepest subconscious mind and conveys the beauty, power and mystery of the universe within us and around us. His abstraction is in the mind and he uses every medium to try and express this. Not limited by the physical result, he just continues to produce. Each artwork bringing him closer to expressing the visions in his imagination.

Even his smallest artworks display a mastery of structure and balance. This comes from his lifetime of practise and dedication. From early childhood Janardan has been pursuing the ultimate and infinite abstraction in art. Working continuously to the present day. This has given him an incredible, spiritual connection to the creative force and this expresses itself through his artworks.

Here it is relevant to quote Picasso: "It took me four years to learn to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to learn to paint like a child."  In other words, a child paints directly from inner inspiration, without influence or knowledge from the outside world.

Janardan has often quoted Ray Bradbury to me: "quantity produces quality". In other words the more times you try something the better you get at it. And he lives his life by this. He is the most prolific artist I know of, still working daily to express his art.

His style is unique and extremely versatile. From simple, naive and pleasant to complex, chaotic and atmospheric, his compositions all have untold depths that continue to reveal themselves to the viewer.

"Janardan's artwork is more than just physical. It is conceptual. He tends not explain his artwork as it has so much personal meaning and depth. Rather he allows the viewer to make their own mind up about it. But in my discussions with him I know that his work is expressing our deepest connection to nature, the cosmos and esoteric truths.

It is also my privilige to watch him work from time to time. He uses the brush with such ease, skill and fluidity allowing his imagination to come through seamlessly. I see him also as a calligrapher and a designer. His lines express form, beauty and concepts with such efficiency, while his balance of colour and light create 3D spaces that lead the viewer inwards to a deep serenity or thoughtfulness.
